Il Trovatore (v1)

In this production Negrin focused on making virtues out of the famously difficult aspects of the libretto. This resulted in unexpected emotional impact and theatrical integrity. The ghosts of Azucena’s mother and son haunt the main characters in this story about the weight of our past burning all possibility of a satisfactory present or future.The 100 meter wide outdoor stage of the Sferisterio was fully used to make this a truly site specific concept, turning the width itself into a key dramaturgical tool. The production was an absolute hit and was revived two years later with further revivals expected.
